Beta didn’t double, power didn’t come back on.

Not my lucky day.  Today’s beta was 502.  From 303 on Monday.  I am not pleased.  I am terrified.  The nurse sounded all sunshine and roses, telling me it is fine, they look for 60% increase, mine was 66%…blah blah.  But it seems like MOST people do indeed double.  I go back Monday for more bloodwork, then an ultrasound next Thursday afternoon.  It is only Wednesday.  Monday is very very far away.  So…

I called and left a message for the nurse asking if I can come Friday for blood instead of waiting until Monday.  We’ll see what she says.  I just don’t think I can wait that long and not lose my freaking mind.  If the news is better or the same on Friday, I can rest easy over the weekend.  If it’s not, I can be rightfully concerned.  But better than being concerned the whole way through if there is a chance I don’t need to be.

Hoping for power by Thursday night…but right now, that’s the least of my worries.

Now here is the part where everyone writes nice reassuring comments about their own experiences, how 48 hours isnt the be-all-end-all of doubling time, how under 72 hours is just as fine…that’s what I’m needing right now.  Please…

  1. Hate betas, hate, hate, hate them. If I had a miraculous pregnancy ever in my lifetime again, I guarantee you I wouldn’t even show up in the RE’s office early.

That number means little without the next beta. Because there are so many variables, like the vanishing twin scenario which could certainly apply to you. Don’t panic yet.

    When is the next one?

  3. You first beta was so strong that it could just be a vanishing twin. Don’t fret yet. Keep the positive vibes coming. Give P a hug and focus on the good things (had to do without power, I’m sure) and hopefully the days will pass quickly until Monday. (I know, easier said than done.)

Hang in there. Sending hugs your way.

  6. It was always my impression that betas have a 48-72 hour window for doubling.
I know it’s easier said than done, but hang in there until Monday!! Rooting for ya!

  7. Yeah i too have read alot of different scenarios on betas and their doubling times, etc. Don’t sweat anything girl. I hope you can go in tomorrow and not wait out the weekend. I am still very excited, so try to be too k? Hope the power comes back, but like you said a small thing in the scheme of the big picture right about now. Mad hugs girl. xoxoxoxox

  8. Try not to worry. I’m a terrible doubler. I’m lucky if I get 66%! If it is any consolation, I am holding 2 sleeping 6 month olds and they doubled 33% every day during those early betas.

  9. My beta didn’t double, either. My son was born, full term and healthy, and is now 18 months old. It can totally be okay. But I know the panic and my fingers will be crossed that all is well.

  10. My betas didn’t double in the first while either. I cried, thrashed and thought for sure I was losing the pregnancy. Today, I’m staring at the two 7 month wonders that came as a result.
    Thinking of you.

You’ve got it! :) My numbers never doubled. Except with the pregnancy that ended in a miscarriage. My twin pregnancy had an initial beta of 101, second beta was 170. Yes, that was with TWINS. My initial beta with my daughter was 40, the second was only 60…my RE didn’t hold out much hope for that one. But they are all here, 3 kids under 4. Not bad for an infertile. :)

I second the vanishing twin theory. You had a very strong initial beta, and that is a GREAT thing. With my daughter I was in a panic so I raided all the beta sites. The word on the street now is, that as long as your initial number is good and it doesn’t stay the same or go down, your pregnancy is viable until proven otherwise. Hang in there!!!

Hopefully you are getting good results Right This Very Minute. But if you’re still waiting, I can give you a first hand tale of non-doubling betas that resulted in good things. I had a high first, increase of about 50% to the second beta, and then a scant doubling on the third. And I have triplets. After transferring two blasts. Yeah, that part was a hell of a surprise.
    Fingers crossed for you.
